Albany Electrical Contractors Association, Inc.
(AECA) -
Membership in AECA
is automatic when you join the National Electrical Contractors
Association (NECA). AECA is the local chapter of NECA and is
your voice in the national organization and in your Albany,
New York, Capital District region.
The National Electrical Contractors Association, founded in 1901,
is a national trade association with affiliated chapters. NECA
represents, promotes, and advances the interests of the
electrical contracting industry, of all its branches, and of
the public it serves. The members are companies, divisions,
departments, sectors, groups, and subdivisions whose principal
function is electrical contracting.
NECA is composed of a National Headquarters, 4 Regional Offices, 10
Districts, a Field Service Staff, and 128 Chapters (including
international). NECA policy is set by its members who act
through a Board of Governors. The Board of Governors consists
of an elected member from each chapter, the Association
President, a Vice President from each District and a Vice
President at Large.
Policies and programs established by the Board of Governors are
carried out by the Executive Committee through the NECA
Officers and Staff. Members who serve on various committees
advise the association on programs and activities that should
be considered and pursued. The various services and programs
available through the national association and the Field
Service are implemented by the local chapters.
Why NECA was founded.
NECA was founded:

To provide
opportunities for electrical contractors to meet for their
mutual education.

To uncover
potential for increased electrical contracting business
including distribution of electrical materials, equipment
and apparatus.

To inform the
industry of business opportunities.

To speak for the
electrical contracting industry and represent its interest
before legislative assemblies, governmental agencies, and
other bodies.

To promote
harmonious labor-management relations and provide for the
orderly settlement of labor disputes.

To sponsor
apprenticeship training programs.
-
To inform the
public of the benefits of having electrical work done by
qualified NECA contractors.
-
To cooperate in
developing the National Electrical Code and other technical
and safety programs that aim at safe, adequate, and
efficient electrical service to the public. To inform the
public about the importance of adequate and safe wiring.

To promote sound
business management practices through education and to
sponsor and conduct courses in business management,
accounting, estimating, and other topics for electrical
contractors and their employees.

To furnish without
cost to all known electrical contracts a periodical or
periodicals that contain information, data, trade and
industry statistics, analyses of governmental regulations,
and business trends of value to the electrical contracting
industry.

To conduct
research into products equipment methods, management,
business. and business opportunities of the electrical
contract industry.

To provide
information and advice on industry problems.

To promote sound
economic conditions in the electrical contracting industry.

To provide
industry representation on business and industry councils.

To promote the
adoption by governmental agencies, and private owners, of
contracting procedures that will assure the most active,
open competitive bidding for electrical contracts and
eliminate unfair trade practices.

To cooperate with
other branches of the electrical industry and the
construction industry to promote fair and ethical business
practices and improve products and services.
Why You Should Be a NECA Contractor.
NECA offers you an
opportunity to have a direct say in the electrical industry
and its future through regular meetings held at the chapter,
district and national levels. Subjects discussed may include
such areas as Labor Relations, Marketing, Industry Relations,
Technical and Training Programs, Codes and Standards,
Government Relations and Legislation, and Employee Training.
NECA is an
extension of you. It's that extra employee on your payroll who
looks out for your interests. This could include follow-up on
Davis-Bacon, contract compliance, inspection procedures,
and/or OSHA regulations. It could also include representing
you in your own community with trade groups, architects,
engineers, government, the Business Roundtable, and other
business leaders. All this can best be described as an
addition to your sales force through visibility and public
relations.
NECA's educational
programs can help you and your employees enhance your
professional credentials. They're developed exclusively for
the electrical construction industry and are presented at the
chapter, district and national levels. NECA News and the
